What We Support
The Missouri Reader is the MLA’s scholarly journal.
It is published quarterly as a resource for our members. The articles are written by nationally recognized authors, literacy researchers and instructional leaders as well as by local literacy researchers, veteran classroom teachers, beginning classroom teachers and graduate students.
The Rabbit Hole is an artist-driven non-profit organization dedicated to the creation of a new museum experience around literature. It began as the vision of Debbie Pettid and Pete Cowdin, co-owners and operators of Kansas City’s beloved Reading Reptile bookstore for nearly three decades.
Turn the Page KC: The mission of Turn the Page KC is to mobilize the community to achieve reading proficiency at grade level or above for all third graders in Kansas City, Missouri. Turn the Page KC was founded by Mayor Sly James in 2011 as an initiative to raise the reading proficiency of third graders, which at the time was only 33%. Volunteer and community organizations began to rally around this mission.
To advance literacy within the Kansas City metropolitan area through direct services, advocacy, and collaboration.
